Beginner
For those just starting out of any age. Beginner lessons include all the basic skills, we will start on the longe line to build communiation with the horse, and then move to independence once I deem you ready. Structure of lessons depends on the age of the rider, as different development levels require different things. Beginner lessons also cover horse care and management, as well as essential skills such as tacking the horse.
I have 3 horses that can be available for beginners. English on my horses, I can offer western lessons if you have access to a horse and tack.
Intermediate Dressage
Moving past the basics riders can continue in dressage. I teach with classical dressage principles, which includes a lot of focus at the walk. We discuss theory, why we do what we do, and then use the basic movements to better more advanced movement.
Western or English tack. My horses can be available, but preference given to those with access to their own horses.
Option to compete available
Working Equitation
Building on dressage, as well as some more learning of classical dressage principles. Dressage is then applied to obstacles. We will work mostly on precise movements, but will play with speed as we progress.
Western or english. My horses can be available, preference to those with access to another horse.
Option to compete available.
Jumping
I generally teach show jumping, but the basic priciples are the same for those wishing to pursue hunters as well. Program starts with basics of getting the horse moving correctly, and using dressage to better the jumping, and then we eventually move to course work.
Must have access to another horse, as my lesson horses do not jump.
Option to compete available.
Lessons are 1 hour long. Group lessons (running Monday-Thursday) are $60/lesson
Private lessons (running Fridays) are $75/lesson
A family discount of $5 per rider if multiple riders participating in group lessons. (For example 2 riders in a group lesson from the same family would be equal to $110 instead of $120)
GST rates apply if paying with anything other than cash.
The schedule below has all the available lessons. Send me a message to secure your spot.
Lessons begin September 9.
All students must wear footwear with a heel (preferably riding boots/cowboy boots) and have their own helmet. A bike helmet is acceptable for beginners first few rides, but once committed they must have an ASTMF certified horseback riding helmet (can be purchased on a budget at Lammle’s). Minors CANNOT ride without a helmet, and adults are encouraged to wear one.
All riding (except those specifically looking to jump) can be done in either English or Western tack, and I have both available.
Lessons are limited to 4 riders maximum, as in the winter there is limited space in the indoor arena.
I have a limited number of lesson horses available, and lessons will be held at the level they can sustain. Riders with their own horse are encouraged to bring them. Additionally, due to low number of horses there will be a number of lessons dedicated to groundwork, theory, or stable management which gives them a break and also prepares students to be good horsemen/women. On those days topics will be posted and students will be able to choose which to participate in. Make-up lesson will only be available if Little Orchard Equine cancels a class (due to weather or other circumstance). If a rider misses a lesson than the payment will be kept as a cancellation fee and will NOT roll over into the next month.
